With recovering from the holidays and getting back into the swing of things, let’s face it: January can be a long month. What better way to beat the winter blues than to start planning your next vacation! Whether you want to escape for a night, a weekend, or a week, here are seven essentials for planning your vacation to Hocking Hills.
Decide when you want to go
Are you a winter sports person, a summer ziplining person, or a fall foliage person? Hocking Hills has something to offer in every season and the weather is generally comfortable, so pick the season when you can engage in the activities you like best. If you just need a relaxing weekend getaway for yourself and your loved one, well, that’s a go in any season!
Make a budget
This may sound the least fun part of vacation planning, but really it’s the time when you get to decide your vacation priorities—for example, do you want to spend your money on fine dining, activities, or souvenirs? If you make a budget in advance, you hopefully won’t come home with a higher-than-expected credit card bill. The good news is that many of the major attractions, like the Old Man’s Cave and Conkle’s Hollow, are free, and renting a cabin is much less expensive than staying in a hotel.
Choose your accommodations
Hocking Hills is cabin country. Picture yourself soaking in a private hot tub on your deck while watching the sunset over the rolling hills and waking up with sunlight streaming in your cabin window. We have vacation rental cabins and lodges that can accommodate anywhere from two to twenty people, so you can be on vacation and still have all of the comforts of home.
Book your transportation
You will need a car to get around Hocking Hills. If you are coming from afar, the closest major airport is the Port Columbus International Airport, which is a little over an hour drive from Hocking Hills. All of the major national car rental companies have branches at Port Columbus, so you can fly in and rent a car for the rest of your trip.
Reserve your activities
If you are taking a hiking trip to Hocking Hills State Park, then all you need to do is show up and explore. But for some of the region’s top activities, like the world-class ziplines, Hocking Hills Scenic Air Tours, and Hocking Hills Adventure Treks, advance reservations are highly recommended.
Plan your meals
The Hocking Hills area, especially downtown Logan, has many great dining options for families and foodies alike. Since you are staying in a cabin, you can also save money and eat healthier by providing some of your own meals. The Hocking Hills Farmers Market is open on Saturdays in Logan, and there are several other seasonal markets in the area where you can purchase local meats, cheeses, and produce.
Look forward to a wonderful vacation
Finally, now that the planning is done, you can relax and look forward to your upcoming vacation. Have a wonderful trip!
