With the New Year underway, Old Man’s Cave Chalets would like to congratulate everyone on a fantastic 2014! We hope everyone has their resolutions in order and have begun to set their calendars for 2015’s upcoming events. Hocking County likes to kick off the each and every New Year with the Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike. This event is a must-see for any Hocking Hills visitor and has been a yearly tradition for the last 50 years! Experience the beauty of the majestic Old Man’s Cave State Park which transforms into South Eastern Ohio’s very own Winter Wonderland. The hike’s starting point takes place at Old Mans Cave State Park on Saturday January 17th. Hikers will begin between 9am and 11am. The hike is about 6 miles in length and will commence is small groups with a guide that will lead you to Old Mans Cave’s upper trail where you and your fellow hikers will then be let loose to finish the hike at your own pace. Cedar falls will be the midway point of your Hike which you may treat yourself to a hot cup of the traditional Hocking Hills Bean Soup. They make this delicious soup the old-fashioned way in massive iron kettles so it is steaming hot and ready on your cold winter hike. The soup will be served with cornbread and plenty of hot beverages to go to keep you warm and ready to continue your hike. Be on the lookout for spectacles such as the crystal clear Rose Lake! Dare to see the tallest tree in Ohio? Expanding from the valley a mere 149 ft. stands an Ancient Hemlock where its branches seem to kiss the skies above it. Coupled with monumental human history you may witness an abundance of wildlife and breathtaking rock formations. As you make it towards the end of your hike be sure to relax and warm back up with some traditional sassafras tea brewed in traditional iron kettles back at Old Man’s Cave.
