Conkle’s Hollow is located
in the heart of the Allegheny Plateau in the southeast of Ohio. The geological formation is a 200 feet tall and 100 feet wide cliff that has a very prominent face carved by millions of years of erosion. The top platform provides commanding views of the entire valley and multiple tracks lead to the base and top of the rock.
It is the access that is most concerning to people who want to visit Conkle’s Hollow. To get there, you first need to arrive at Logan, which is the county seat of Hocking County.
By Road
The best way of reaching Conkle’s Hollow is by taking a road trip from Logan. The county town is located on the route 33. Once at Logan, you can take route 93 that will lead you to the heart of Hocking Hills State Park. You can continue on the route until it crosses the route 56. This route will take you at the doors of Conkle’s Hollow from where you can make a trek of a few miles to reach the destination.
Another option is to continue on route 56 a little further to the point where paved road leads to the Hocking Hills State Park. The same road goes further up and passes very close to Conkle’s Hollow. A trek of two miles starts from the road that takes you to the base of the geological formation.
By Air
Vinton County airport is located a few miles south of Conkle’s Hollow. It largely caters to chartered flights and remains busy during the peak tourist season in summer. You can charter a jet from Cleveland or Columbus. This will, however, cost you more especially if you want to charter a jet during the off-peak season. You can also charter a jet to take an aerial view of the entire valley.
It is a popular way of exploring the area if you are short on time and cannot make treks to popular attractions in the area. Helicopter service is also available that will take you to the top of Conkle’s Hollow. The only downside is that it is not a frequent service and you may have to wait for days.
By Foot
The best way to reach Conkle’s Hollow is by foot. As a matter of fact, it is the only way to reach the attraction unless you can dole out enough money to charter a plane or helicopter. Trails leading to Conkle’s Hollow have been improved over the years and the initial climb is handicap accessible. The final trip can be taxing for people with motion disabilities and it is recommended to discontinue at the last leg of the paved trail.
