Lake Logan State Park is located just outside Logan, Ohio. It is on the edge of Hocking Hills State Park and was renamed Lake Logan to avoid confusion between the two. The park is 741 acres in total, with around 311 acres for the lake itself and for all intents and purposes is regarded as part of the Hocking Hills State Park.
Geography
This park is all about the water. There are no rock formations to marvel at, cliffs to rappel down or grottoes to tunnel into. There is lots and lots of water and a few trails to enjoy. All of the rock formations are underneath the lake and would probably be just as fascinating as those in Hocking Hills State Park if we could only see them.
As much of Hocking Hills are under an inland sea millions of years ago, the lake is one of the legacies of that time. It isn’t unrealistic to think that under that calm, clear water there are cliffs, gorges and amazing Blackhand sandstone formations, however we shall never know.
Recreation
Lake Logan State Park offers a dedicated swimming area, two boat ramps for leisure craft of no more than 10hp, four fishing piers, two winter sledding areas and a selection of picnic areas spread around the shore. Hunting is allowed in generally the western half of the park within limits.
There are two primary trails within Lake Logan State Park, Pine Vista Trail, which is a 1 mile loop and the South Hiking Trail, which is half a mile. Both offer peaceful, easy hiking than makes a nice change from the undulations of the other parks.
Fishing
Some of the best fishing in Ohio can be had at Lake Logan State Park. It’s a firm favorite for locals and visitors alike and there is always a rod or two dipping into the water somewhere round here. There are a good supply of northern pike, bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and saugeye in the water who offer a challenge to even the most accomplished fisher.
You can use boats too, as long as they are no more than 10hp and you keep under 10mph while on the water. There are boat docks you can rent, ties up and launch ramps so you’re well looked after here.
