When it comes to exploring Ohio’s great outdoors, there is no place in the Buckeye state quite like the Hocking Hills. Each year, millions of adventurers visit the parks for incredible hiking, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, boating, and rock climbing. One of our favorite ways to experience the area’s rugged beauty is on the Hocking Hills bike trails. Over 50 miles of biking trails connect the region, and Chalets in Hocking Hills offers cabin rentals secluded within a few miles of the parks. Whether you are interested in a challenging ride or a leisurely bike on beginner trails, there is an adventure for every style in the Hocking Hills!
Hocking Hills Bike Trails
There are two mountain biking trails available within Hocking Hills State Park. The Purple Trail is a two-mile loop with medium difficulty and minor climbing. The Orange Trail is also two-miles but offers a more challenging ride that includes steeper climbing and more downhill runs.
If you need to rent a bike while you’re here, we recommend Hocking Hills Bike Rental LLC or the Hocking College Nature Center.
Lake Hope State Park Bike Trails
Lake Hope State Park has the most extensive bike trails, with eight routes spanning over 25 miles. Here are three of the most popular Hocking Hills bike trails you can ride here:
- Copperhead Trail: This route offers seven miles of ridgetop riding with exhilarating curves, twists, and hills. The path also connects Wildcat and Bobcat Trail for even more biking opportunities.
- Sidewinder Trail: This challenging route includes tight turns, steep climbs, switchbacks, bridge crossing, and exhilarating descents. The trail is just under three miles and offers a fun challenge for bikers!
- Hope Furnace Trail: Ride the Hope Furnace Trail for scenic lake views and minimal climbing. Keep in mind that this is a multi-use path, so please be wary of pedestrians.
Hockhocking Adena Bikeway
The Hockhocking Adena Bikeway is a 20-mile paved trail that extends from Nelsonville to Athens. This bikeway is an excellent option for families looking for a leisurely place to ride their bikes. Cruise for a few hours or make it a day trip and discover points of interest along the trail. If you are a fan of beer, we recommend checking out the Brewed on the Bikeway page. There are several breweries located right next to the bikeway so that you can take a break for a refreshing drink!
